Spring is a good time to refresh your bedroom. The days grow longer, the light gets brighter, and after winter the room can feel lighter again. These ideas help you do it without much effort.
Wash your duvet and pillows
The change of season is the right moment for the bedding you do not wash every week. We recommend washing duvets and pillows about twice a year: down at up to 60 °C, synthetic at up to 40 °C, both on a gentle cycle. Then tumble dry completely on a low temperature. We show you how, step by step, in our article Washing your duvet and pillows at home.
Do not forget the other textiles in the room, such as curtains or cushion covers. On a dry day, you can give a rug a good beating outdoors and let it air.

Do not forget the mattress
While the bed is stripped anyway, vacuum the mattress and let it air for a while. Whether and how often you should flip or rotate it depends on your mattress. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Lighter layers
As the nights get milder, your bed can become lighter too. If a medium-warm duvet feels too warm, switch to the warmth level Light. Instead of heavy wool blankets and velvet cushions, linen, sateen and light throws now feel right. To find out which warmth level suits which season, read our guide Which duvet for which season?.
Bed linen in pale, calm shades
A freshly made bed changes the whole room. White bed linen looks bright and calm and suits every interior style. If you like a little colour, choose pale, calm shades such as sand, light grey or pastel blue and combine them with white. You will find ready-made combinations among our bed linen sets. A set costs 10 % less than buying the pieces individually.
Fresh branches and flowers
The easiest way to bring spring indoors is with seasonal greenery. Interior designer Didem Scharmach recommends long branches from the garden, such as cherry, apple or magnolia, in a large vase. A few tulips on the chest of drawers or bedside table are enough too. For potted plants, choose varieties that cope with the light in your bedroom.

Declutter and let the light in
Take some time for your wardrobe and drawers and give away what you no longer need. Put away your winter things, from heavy coats to wool socks. A tidy room immediately feels calmer. Then open the curtains and windows and let in as much daylight as possible. If you like, swap heavy curtains for lighter ones.
Keep it simple. The bedroom remains a place of calm, and a few accents say more than many.
