The right pillow is a very personal choice. One or many? Big and fat or small and slim? Above all, it's like your mama said: it's what's inside that really counts. Our pillows are filled with natural down or down alternatives - in soft, medium or firm fill - and wrapped in a 100% cotton shell for comfort and protection. We've also added a side sleeper option that breaks the wake, roll over and fluff cycle that occurs when you sleep on your side on a regular pillow. With that in mind, here's your guide to choosing the right Marso Living pillow for your sleep preference: Soft, Medium or Firm.

Identify your sleep style

A pillow's most important function is to align your head and neck with your spine while you sleep. Chances are, you stare at the screen on your desk or in your hand all day. It all puts an inordinate amount of stress on your neck, which makes up up to 17% of your spine (fun fact). Give your neck a rest and make sure it's properly aligned. Your sleep style dictates what kind of support you need, so let's start there:

The perfect pillow

back sleepers

Beware of a pillow that pushes your head too far forward, which can lead to a stiff neck in the morning. The bottom line: This position tends to be most comfortable with a medium level of support - choose medium or firm.

stomach sleeper

Some stomach sleepers are not comfortable with any pillow because their neck rests in a neutral position. If a bed feels incomplete without a pillow, opt for a pillow on the softer side. A very plump pillow forces a stomach sleeper's head at a pinched angle. The bottom line: This position usually requires the least amount of support—choose a soft one.

side sleepers

You're in good company - studies show that up to 69% of people sleep on their side. This position is also where the distance between the ear and shoulder is greatest, requiring a lot of loft to maintain alignment. The bottom line: choose the middle pillow. This pillow offers unparalleled support and perfect conformability.

Know the filling of your pillow

Pillows can be stuffed with anything. We set out to design a pillow that is comfortable but also easy to care for, which excludes overly natural materials like buckwheat and horsehair. We also wanted our pillows to stay cool in warm temperatures without solidifying when temperatures drop - which rules out synthetic materials like memory foam and latex. That's why we've developed two fill options: all-natural European white down and premium microfiber down alternatives.

down

The proven down filling has prevailed for a good reason: it offers the best of both worlds. It's supportive and durable, but also fluffy and lightweight. Marso Living's down pillows have a fill power of up to 900g (50x70cm), which means that the filling has a high percentage of down clusters and a larger than average down cluster size (AKA dream zone).

down alternative

If you suffer from dust or seasonal allergies, or prefer a vegan setup, a down fill may leave you sniffling while you snooze. Your best bet is a hypoallergenic down-alternative pillow. A modern microfiber fill (like that from Marso Living) mimics the density of pure down and provides support without irritating sensitive systems.

Summarized

Choosing the best pillow is always a sure-fire way to improve the quality of your sleep and ensure you wake up rested and refreshed. Be sure to consider the filling inside the pillow as well as the position you typically sleep in, as these factors can have a big impact on the type of pillow that works best for you.
