When people think of linen, many first think of bed linen. Yet linen also has a long tradition in the kitchen and at the dining table. Tea towels, napkins and placemats made of linen accompany everyday life and make even a simple table look beautiful.
Why linen in the kitchen
Linen is made from flax. The fabric has a lively, natural texture. Our kitchen textiles are made of pure European linen with a characteristic, lightly washed texture.
They are woven in Lithuania and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. All three products come in calm, natural colours that go well together.
You can read more about the material, from flax to fabric, in the article All about linen.
Tea towel: the little helper
Our Linen Tea Towel measures 45 × 65 cm. It is practical for drying up and a small touch of colour on the worktop.
It comes in four colours: Clay, Light Grey, Light Beige Striped and Dark Grey Striped. A few ideas for everyday use:
- For drying glasses and dishes.
- As a base for freshly washed vegetables or herbs.
- Over a bread basket to keep the bread covered.
- On the oven handle, always within reach.
Two or three tea towels in rotation are a good start. That way one is always dry and ready to use.
Napkins and placemats for every day
Cloth napkins and placemats are not just for special occasions. They also make a weekday breakfast a little calmer.
Linen napkins
Our Linen Napkins measure 45 × 45 cm. They come in Charcoal and Clay, and in Natural and White with fringes. You buy them individually and order exactly the number that suits your table.
Linen placemats
Our Linen Placemat measures 35 × 45 cm. It offers room for plate, cutlery and glass. The placemats also come in Clay and Charcoal, and in Natural and White with fringes, also sold individually.
Napkins and placemats can be combined freely. Tone on tone looks calm, for example Natural with White. A dark placemat in Charcoal with a napkin in Clay creates a warm contrast.
How many do you need?
For everyday use, one napkin and one placemat per person is enough, plus a few to rotate. If you often have guests, get a few extra. Because you order individually, you can add to your collection bit by bit.
Care and stains
Kitchen textiles are washed often. Linen copes well with this. This is how to care for our tea towels, napkins and placemats:
- Wash at 40–60 °C on a gentle cycle.
- Use a little mild liquid detergent.
- Avoid bleach and fabric softener.
- Wash light and dark colours separately.
- Dry in the fresh air or at a low temperature in the tumble dryer.
Ironing is not necessary. The lightly washed texture is part of the fabric's character.
With stains, it helps to act quickly. Rinse fresh stains with cold water as soon as possible, then wash the cloth as usual. Do not rub hard; dab instead. For stubborn stains, check the care label before using a stain remover.

Simply laying a beautiful table
A beautifully laid table does not need much. With these steps it works every day:
- Lay the placemat: place one placemat per person about a hand's width from the edge of the table.
- Plate in the middle: the plate sits in the centre of the placemat.
- Add cutlery: fork on the left, knife and spoon on the right.
- Fold the napkin: simply folded to the left of the fork, or loosely on the plate.
- Glass at the top right: above the tip of the knife.
For a special occasion, a small addition is often enough: a candle, a few branches from the garden, napkins with fringes.
If you are laying the table for many guests, you can mix colours. Two alternating colours look lively and still calm. A tea towel in a matching colour over the bread basket links the table with the kitchen.
Storing linen
Store napkins and placemats dry and folded flat, for example in a drawer. That way they are ready straight away for the next meal.
Our linen kitchen textiles also make a lovely gift, for example for a new home or when visiting friends. You will find all products in the Living & Dining collection.
