A freshly made bed makes the evening special. But how often should you change your bed linen? At Marso Living we recommend about once a week. That is a practical starting point for your everyday life – not a fixed date that suits every situation.
Once a week as a simple routine
Covers and sheets are with you night after night. With use, skin flakes, sweat and residues of body care products, among other things, collect in the fabric. Changing regularly helps keep your bed fresh.
Pick a day that fits well into your weekly rhythm. If a second set is ready, you can make the bed straight away and wash and fully dry the used bed linen without rushing.
When to change more often?
If you sweat heavily, if there are visible stains or if the bed linen no longer feels fresh, changing it sooner makes sense. This may happen more often on warm summer nights. After an illness or if pets regularly lie on the bed, you can also adjust your rhythm accordingly.
A pillowcase can be changed separately when needed. You don't have to wait until the whole set is due.
Covers are something different from duvets and pillows
Bed linen consists of the removable covers and sheets. Bedding means the filled duvets and pillows. They have different purposes and care needs.
| What? | Recommendation from Marso Living |
|---|---|
| Duvet cover, pillowcase and sheets | Change about once a week |
| Filled duvet and pillow | Wash about twice a year |
| In between | Shake duvets and pillows daily and air them regularly |
If they get dirty, cleaning them sooner is possible. Always check the care label before washing a filled product.
At what temperature should bed linen be washed?
Our current product care guidelines allow up to 60 °C for sateen, linen and jersey. For regular care we recommend 40 °C on a delicate cycle. The specific care label remains decisive.
Use a little mild liquid detergent. Separate light and dark colours, close covers and turn them inside out. Bleach and fabric softener are not part of our care recommendation. If white bed linen develops a yellow tinge, our guide Yellowed bed linen white again will help you.
If you have allergies or special hygiene requirements, the care routine you need may differ. Seek professional advice and choose products whose care label matches the required temperature.
What you can do between washes
Fold back the duvet after getting up and let the bed and room air. Shake duvets and pillows regularly. It is best to put a bedspread on only once the duvets and pillows have aired.
Airing does not replace washing. It complements it and makes daily care easy. Fully dried covers should be stored in a dry place.
How many sets do you need?
Two matching sets per bed are an easy start: one is in use, one is ready. Whether you need more depends on drying time, household size and your preferences. What matters is that duvet covers and pillowcases have the right dimensions. In the bedding set, a duvet cover and two pillowcases are combined, and you save 10 % compared with buying the pieces individually. Matching fitted sheets complete the set. Which size fits is explained in Fitted sheet sizes and mattress depth. For a new bed, our checklist for your new bed will help you.
